Local Liberal Democrat campaigners, Sam Martin and Drew Heffernan, have supported this year’s National Libraries Day, visiting Welling library on Saturday (4th February).
Each year on National Libraries Day, events are held across the UK to mark the occasion, and the day is a perfect opportunity for people to show how important their library is to them. In fact, 2017 is a bumper year for celebrating libraries as for the first time, National Libraries week will also take place in October.
Sam and Drew both signed up to the Library on Saturday and would recommend that everyone do the same. The process is simple and all you need is a form of ID. You don’t have to be a resident and even if you don’t have proof of address, you can still borrow up to three books. You can visit any library in Bexley to sign up or sign up online by following this link: Join a library in Bexley
Drew said: “National Libraries Day is a real chance to get out and visit your local library, and find out what’s on offer. Local libraries are a great way of encouraging children to develop a love of reading, and the number of books on offer means every child should be able to find something they want to read.”
Sam added: "Like so many residents in Bexley, I want to see future generations be able to have a local Library that they can use - for borrowing books, taking part in courses and attending events, and even for reporting un-emptied bins and arranging bulky item removal by the council. Libraries are great community assets and need to be protected.”
