Bexley youth hear Lib Dem plan for a brighter future

Bexley young people heard how the Liberal Democrats would focus on youth with its policies on voting, housing, education and drugs policy.

A hustings in Thamesmead organised by Update News saw Drew Heffernan, candidate for Old Bexley & Sidcup, debate issues with candidates from Labour, the Conservatives, UKIP, the Green Party and an independent.

Drew Heffernan speaking after the event said:

“The Liberal Democrats will give 16-17 year olds the vote, provide support not stigmatisation for those affected by drugs issues, triple the pupil premium for children that need the most support and establish a new Rent to Buy scheme for young people struggling to buy a house.

“I have worked in education for several years and I know that children from all backgrounds can achieve extraordinary things. We must get this right and invest in young people in Bexley.”

“This was a brilliantly organised discussion, and I congratulate Update News on being a great advert for the talent and dedication of young people in Bexley. That is the most important thing we should take from the event.”

A video of the hustings will be available on Update News from 5 June.
